Great deal for the price

Stayed two nights. Check-in was easy and friendly. Small, old room, but new toilet and shower head. Amenities: hair dryer; iron & board; shampoo; cable TV, but no movie channels; clean towels; mini fridge. Nicest feature of the room was the vaulted ceiling. We had an end room, yet we heard someone coughing both nights as if he was right in the room with us; paper thin walls and just bad acoustics.
Hotel features: free parking; indoor heated pool and jacuzzi open until 10:30 p.m.; Exercise room consisted of a cycle machine, step machine, ping pong table, water cooler, telephone, and bathroom.
Complimentary breakfast from 6:00-9:00 a.m. with donuts, bagels, toast, instant oatmeal, cottage cheese, bananas, oranges, cling peaches, pineapple chucks, coffee, hot chocolate, orange & apple juice, variety of teas/chai. Simple, but nice dining area with Santa Fe artwork. There was a microwave, but not sure why since the dining area closes and is not accessible after the breakfast hours.
Located on Cerrillos Rd, three miles SW of The Plaza. When asked about a good local restaurant, the hotel recommended "Tomasitas". I had a chicken burrito w/green chile and I was very disappointed. It was a local favorite for the bar, but the food was bland and mediocre at best. I suggest The Shed on E. Palace Ave. for ambiance and food. A bit pricey because of its location, but a safe bet for decent food.
Santa Fe lacked in visitor activities. Unless you're a wealthy art connoisseur, there isn't much to do, so you may prefer a fancier hotel. For those who just want a clean place to sleep at night and enjoy a swim or soak, then The Lamplighter is a great deal for the price.
- Pros: Economical, pool/spa, free buffet breakfast
- Cons: Small economy style room
Budget hotel offers standard amenities and low rates to road-weary travelers.
