What Our Expert Scouts Say

April 28, 2013

A remote restaurant on the far outskirts of Santa Fe, Bobcat Bite is world-famous for its green chile cheese burger. And rightly so. The fresh hatch chiles are incomparable. But even the plain burger is fabulous there, and worth the drive.

Terrible Service. We had an extremely poor experience here two weeks ago today on a Friday at noon. We live half the year in Santa Fe and this was our first time at this restaurant, having heard good things about the food. When you arrive you put your name on a board and they go in turn to seat you. There was one name ahead of ours and that party was called. A waitress then skipped us ( 3 adults and a 3 year old) and seated a man whose party had not yet arrived. When we said something the waitress tried to get the man to leave the table but he would not, even though the people he was waiting for were not yet there. The waitress did not seem to care. We waited another 10 minutes for a table (the place is very small) and then one hour for the food to arrive. This has to be the very worst service in Santa Fe. The burgers were very good but certainly not worth almost an hour and a half wait. The wait would have been bad even if we did not have our 3 year old grandson with us. You are much better off going to Harry's Roadhouse which is 2 miles away and closer to town. The food and atmosphere is better and the place is friendlier. We will never go back to Bobcat Bites.

best steak anywhere.. This place is odd in that there is no effort at ambience but the food more than makes up for any lacking in ambience. Very small and strange hours but it's worth the drive.

D'Artagnon's View from the Doghouse. I D'Artagnon the Jack Russell critic rate the Bobcat Bite "Four Paws and several vigerous tail shakes" John and Bonnie have the bestest resturant in the whole world. One Saturday morning Jack took me to the Bobcat Bite just before they opened and John cooked up a special burge just for me, Boy was it good. That day I reported on the radio that the Bobcat bite was the best. Jack and Kim have been going there for about 30 years, I love John and his burgers.

Fantastic. Consistent, fantastic burgers & steaks. No fries here - but doesn't matter - restaurant is in a unique building & is very well known here. Need to be really hungry when you go to The Bobcat - no scrimping here. Service is excellent - ALWAYS- only open till 8:00PM - get there early or there will be a wait outside. Very casual. Never tire of going there!

Not to be missed. I've lived in Santa Fe 11 years. Been to the "bite" more times then any other restaurant here. I'm reluctant to recommend it as it's usually only for "locals". The burgers (and my favorite, the Hamburger steak) is simply to die for. The place has local flavor. Off hours are when they first open (11:30) or go after 3pm otherwise you'll wait to get in (which isn't all that bad considering the local). Go hungry. The best burgers in the state no question and maybe in the country. Go for the grilled onions and green chilli. Astounding!

Best Secret in Santa Fe. Without a doubt, do not miss the Green Chili Cheeseburger! I have been a patron there for years and every, and I mean EVERY friend I have taken there for lunch has raved about it being the best hamburger on the planet! Quaint location, friendly people. Steaks and chops rival any steak house in Santa Fe.

Santa Fe's Best, Hands Down. Absolutely, without a doubt the most incredible hamburger in the City Different. Served in the most wonderful, quaint little restaurant. Quirky hours, Open at 11:00 A.M., Closes promptly at 7:50 P.M. Featuring the best handmade, thick, handformed, burger, cooked the way you like it.

The wonderful tasting hamburger steaks and pork chops also adorn the menu.
