OVER PRICED and RUNDOWN, RUNDOWN
10,000 People Getting Massages.
I recently made a visit to Ten Thousand Waves in Santa Fe (January 2, 2009) expecting first class service. Instead, I got the worst massage experience I've ever had.
1) First, to get anywhere on the complex, you have to walk everywhere outside, in only a robe, uphill, in freezing cold weather.
2) Second, I booked a 80 minute massage a recieved a ~40 minute massage.
3) Third, the massage therapist, Frank, spent no time on my hands, feet, or front side of my body. He only massaged my back, the back of arms and the back of my legs.
4) Fourth, when I finished I brought this to the attention of the supervisor (who was on break and I had to wait for 15 minutes to show up) and nothing was done to compensate my horrible and expensive experience.
5) Finally, the place was like a "meat market" of people. It felt more like a cattle farm than a peaceful place to relax.
With so much competition in Santa Fe and surrounding area for Spas, I recommend skipping this high dollar, poor service, terrible experience place!!!
Gross!. This was my first and last visit to ten-thousand waves....... the massage was more like tourture than anything else. "Darma" broke a bone in my face with his so called chakra . The water in the jaccuzi was so cloudy and filthy you couldn't see your feet if you dared put them in. I wouldn't recomend anyone sit in their tubs. I think that with as much as they charge they could fix it up some. Le Bellas in Alb. is so much cleaner and professional.
Perfect 10 - this place is AMAZING!. This is the most relaxing setting you will ever find. Tucked away in Hyde Park National Forest, the spa is literally cut into the mountain. The therapists are wonderful and very personable. It's a little pricey but well worth every penny. I'd recommend not parking in the first lot you arrive at the spa - keep driving around and you will get front row parking. Swim suits are a good idea if you're not overly comfortable in the communal pool. (especially for the ladies.)
Lovely Japanese-style spa with friendly, knowledgable staff. I love this place! The short drive out from downtown Santa Fe is worth it. All of the staff, from the receptionists to the masseurs/masseuses are friendly and knowledgeable. It's utterly addictive to have a soak and then a massage. And yes, it comes very close to the Japanese hot-spring atmosphere that it strives for (and after spending two years in Japan, I feel confident speaking on that.) If you're not used to bathing without clothing, it might be better to go when swimsuits are required in the communal tubs, or rent a private tub. But that's the only thing that I'd say might throw first-time visitors.
Just a few minutes north of town, this Japanese-style spa nestled in the hills feels a world away..
The Scene
Tucked away in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, this tranquil oasis combines Japanese aesthetic with rugged, Southwestern landscape for a perfectly Zen experience. Follow a winding, lantern-lined path through pinon trees to the main building where guests sip cucumber water by a fireplace. If there's too much chatter, relax beside a small, gurgling waterfall outside. Private tubs and eight overnight guest houses are scattered throughout the surrounding woods.
The Services
While Asian-influenced treatments and massages are perfectly splendid, private outdoor hot tubs are a draw in themselves. Surrounded by wooden decks, weathered fence planks and fragrant evergreens, open-air tubs are especially magical under the stars. After an hour-long soak, a full-body therapeutic massage will leave you in a state of utter relaxation. In addition to a full range of body and facial treatments, unique offerings include a soothing stone massage and a Thai massage that incorporates elements of yoga.
Perfection. Just a joyous experience... Friendly people, beautiful surroundings, great services - memories to last a lifetime. Stayed two days longer than perfection (was room called New moon - something like that) Perfection. A+++
Paradise Found. 10K is an amazing place where one can relax and wash away the worries of the day. I enjoyed the private and communal baths while my better half enjoyed a massage. We then retreated to our private bath where we watch the sun set, the stars shine and our memories of Santa Fe become legendary. The staff was accomodating, the facilities were fine, and the prices were reasonable. Spa services seemed a little steep, but the baths were not.
Needs an update. Reading that ten thousand waves was one of the US top ten spas I was excited to try out their services. The location was ideal and staff were helpful and accomodating. However, inside the facilities need updating. Many areas seem dated and worn out, especially in the dressing room. In the individual spa rooms they did not accomodate a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Each spa room is decorated in hard wood which makes for alot of noise when the spa personnel are walking around. Nothing was within reach of the spa person so she had to tromp around to get everything. The spa person that I had for the facial spent more time talking about leaving the spa for another career and very little time massaging and pampering the guest. Also, the spa bed was very uncomfortable and the sheets felt thin and worn. Very disappointing experience. Would not return.
