Good salads, live music outdoors, nice staff and atmosphere.
The atmosphere at The Blue Heron spa/resort's restaurant was romantic on a summer night. Gorgeous gardens and ponds, paper lanterns and live music make it an extremely pleasant outing from the city of Santa Fé. Filet mignon was outstanding though small; fingerling potatoes and haricots verts were perfectly prepared. A word of caution regarding the health-promoting Tamari Tofu: for seventeen dollars, you receive an eighth-of-an inch thick, four-inch triangle of nearly plain tofu on a lake of flavor-free broth and noodles--less than seventeen cents worth of food, as though to wish to dine in the spa-approved manner is to be a masochist, meriting punishment and deprivation. The promised ginger, a desirable component of the dish, was imperceptible. To eat those awfully wet noodles with a fork is to court sartorial disaster, unless you wear a bib.
In general, the food was good, though the promised lavender in my otherwise delicious grilled radicchio salad with bleu cheese was also gone missing. The music was soft, live jazz, and the people dining there were appreciative enough to clap occasionally. It's a lovely locale and I would go there again with reservations (about some of the offerings)!
UPDATE, APRIL 2007: We dined there last night, and had fabulous food, because the place has a great new chef!
My husband's steak was accompanied by a sumptuous stuffed green chile that was better than any chile relleno in Santa Fe! And, my low-calory chicken roulade was extraordinarily delicious, and accompanied by the most delectable gnocchi. Our waiter, Matt, was at our beck and call all throughout the dinner.
